Hi, I love your site. I am presently trying for find a way to retrieve a loved one from NAMI’s grasp.

Ironically, in my professional life, I have been forced into a situation where I must deal with and depend on the integrity(!) of NAMI officials. They are everything you represent them to be, and they make my skin crawl. I was hoping to become further involved with the organization behind the N.D. website if you have any need for another pair of hands. Kat

Thank you for your interest. We’re a very tight-knit group that, for personal safety reasons doesn’t enlist outside help in this area.

I forgot to mention this in the previous note: I recently witnessed a NAMI official attempt to “gaslight” a patient having a cardiac crisis. With my help we got an ambulance for this man and he was taken to a CICU for appropriate treatment.

I think the best definition of “gaslight” is to be found in Wikipedia, since that also includes an indictment of psychiatric professionals. It is job security for that profession, on the surface, merely a game. In the long run (which might be only a few seconds) it cripples and kills. (FFR, One Flew Over etc: Nurse Ratchett v. the hapless Billy).

Working with–or around this type, this organization, would be futility. I know that, by myself, I am helpless and useless. I can’t protect my family, friends either from killer drugs, institutional abuse, or horrific violation of basic rights. I need to do something, asap. Most Americans are oblivious or indifferent. Me, personally? I can’t stand to watch. Plz refer me to someone who will give me something to do. Thank you. Kat

      Hello Kat,

If you’d like something to do, we can suggest a nice medication teaching group, or perhaps some basket weaving, or maybe an anger management group. Doesn’t that sound nice?

Save it for NAMI, folks. Nastiness is appropriate there, not here. I guess if NAM went away you wouldn’t have a life, would you?

I volunteer as an art therapist, strongly believing in milieu therapy as opposed to the regular fare. We haven’t done any basket weaving so far: most prefer painting. But I can ask em.
